Crafting has become a popular pastime in the UK, with more and more people setting up craft businesses and making money from their creativity. Whether you are making and selling crafts as your full-time occupation, or as a part-time side project, it can be a good idea to arrange insurance to protect yourself and your business.

Why do you need crafts insurance?

Whether you sell your products at craft fairs, in a physical shop or online, it is important to make sure you are covered if a claim is made against you or your business.

Some examples of claims that could be made against a craft insurance policy:

  • A customer is hurt by a product that you have made and sold to them
  • A customer or passer-by is injured by your craft stall during an event, e.g. tripping over loose wires, part of your stall falls and hits them etc.
  • An employee of your business suffers an injury caused by work

What covers are in the CLEAR insurance package for crafts insurance?

The standard package includes the following insurance covers:

Cover Limit
Employers Liability £10 million limit any one event
Public Liability £5 million limit any one event
Products Liability
(Includes cover for USA and Canada)
£5 million any one period of insurance

Find out more about the different types of insurance cover we can offer for crafters and craft businesses:

Public Liability Insurance for crafters

This can protect your business against any claims made if your business activities have caused an injury or property damage.

For example, a visitor to your business premises could trip over a loose wire and injure themselves, or your stock could fall during a craft fair and cause damage to the carpet.

Public Liability claims can arise from a number of circumstances, so it is important to have cover in place so that you and your business is protected should an accident happen.

At CLEAR, we offer Public Liability cover up to £5 million for any one event. Get a free online quote now.

Product Liability Insurance for crafters

As your craft business is focussed on making products to sell, Products Liability can provide cover in case someone is injured by a faulty product that you have made, designed and/or sold.

Product Liability insurance can protect you against the cost of compensation for:

  • Personal injury caused by a faulty product
  • Loss of or damage to property caused by your faulty product
  • Unforseeable circumstances such as product faults that your quality control system failed to identify

At CLEAR, we offer up to £5 million of Products Liability cover for any one period of insurance – which includes sales to the US and Canada. Get a free online quote now.

Employers’ Liability Insurance for crafters

If your craft business has employees, it is a legal requirement to have an Employers’ Liability insurance policy in place.

This can protect your business against legal and compensation expenses from claims made by your employees. For instance, if an employee slips on a wet floor and injures themselves, they could make a claim against your business.

Most businesses in the UK are required to have at least £5 million of Employers’ Liability cover, here at CLEAR we provide up to £10 million of cover to craft businesses. Get a free online quote now.
